IN 1975, Meg Christian, Cris Williamson, Holly Near and I put together a concert event called “An Evening of Women’s Music,” blending our individual performances with musical collaborations that blew the roof off the early Women’s Music movement. One of these concerts was filmed during that extraordinary time.
After methodically tearing my office apart, I finally laid hands on a DVD copy of this concert and watched it straight through. One performance in particular, “Best Friend — The Unicorn Song” made me smile. My desire to share the performance is as much about the “cut-aways” to the audience as it is about offering my young self, singing her heart out.
The film clip captures a classic example of the joyous atmosphere of discovering community that simply vibrated during so many concerts of Women’s Music in this era.
Here now are four performances from the concert, “An Evening of Women’s Music, including “Best Friend” and “Beautiful Soul.” Welcome to my YouTube Channel, inspired by the gentle tug of this rare audio-visual documentation of an early Women’s Music cultural experience.
Please feel free to click on the “Subscribe” button after you’ve watched the videos, if you would like to be notified as I upload more treasures.
Enjoy!
