Dear Friends –
I will write a blow-by-blow on this page in the near future, but for now, I want to post three sites that are giving me comfort during this difficult political climate. I find myself really struggling to stay connected. The news about domestic and world events seems so horrific in so many ways for anyone committed to peace and justice, it’s hard to watch, to listen. And yet, I know I need to do whatever is necessary to stay awake.
I offer you three website URLs that I find inspiring and energizing:
The first two sites are gathering points for alternative news coverage as well as progressive commentary and analysis. Many writers I admire – Katha Pollit, Arundhati Roy, Paul Krugman, Barbara Ehrenreich, Deb Price, Frank Rich, Howard Zinn, Susan Sontag to name a few – and whose writings I have posted on my Personal Is Political Page, are regularly featured on these websites.
The third site is MoveOn.org. Here’s how they describe themselves: “MoveOn.org is a catalyst for a new kind of grassroots involvement, supporting busy but concerned citizens in finding their political voice. Our international network of more than 2,000,000 online activists is one of the most effective and responsive outlets for democratic participation available today.”
If you are looking for a face-to-face community-building experience that is inspiring and energizing, I invite you to attend one of the Community Labyrinth Peace Walks – sponsored by the East Bay (as in Northern California, USA) Labyrinth Project, a newly formed group committed to installing an 11-circuit labyrinth in a public and accessible site in Berkeley, California. Click here (Concerts Page) for more information. I’ll be there.
Onward and Outward!
